Buenos Aires is the biggest city of the Latin America and her gracious and radiant tourist attractions and rich cultural heritage has owned her the name ‘The Pearl’ of South America. Highly influenced by the European heritage the city houses some of the world renowned museums, opera house, theatre, art galleries, monuments, dance and music, sculptures and so forth. - Tango:
Buenos Aires is the birth place of this sensual dance named as ‘Tango’. In 1920 tango got a chance to flourish and brought about a new genre. Renowned orchestras facilitated the growth of this style and today it has taken the form of one of the most noted dances of the world. Sundays are generally kept for tango shows, be it on the streets or bazaars.
- Cinema:
Buenos Aires has been the hub for Argentinean cinema industry for the past 100 years and has successfully directed and produced more than 2000 movies till date. Generally the name of the city is incorporated in the movie’s titles such as Buenos Aires Plateada, and Buenos Aires a la vista. In addition, the tango dance plays an integral part in their cinemas.
- Fair:
Buenos Aires is also noted for putting up numerous fairs, the most famous one being the ‘Mataderos Fair’. It started in the year 1986 and represents the culture and heritage of the country through the arts and craft works, foods, tango and folk dances exhibited in the fair. In addition, other regional activities, like horse ring races also take place.
- Monuments:
Monumental Tower (Torre Monumental): Today this tall tower is known as Plaza Aeronautia Argentina. British residents brought all the material barring sand and water from England to build this structure in 1916. Locals and tourists generally refer to as Torre de los Ingleses.
Government House or Casa Rosada (Pink House): Pink House is known for being one of the oldest and prestigious buildings of Buenos Aires. Reconstruction of this huge façade was done by architecture Francisco Tamburini who gave it an Italian French look. President Domingo Faustino Sarmiento got this huge building painted pink which earned it the name ‘Casa Rosada’ meaning ‘Pink House’.
- Museums:
Cabildo: This well known museum reminds us of the magnificent work of Jesuit architect Andrés Blanqui. After numerous changes and renovations, today this magnificent government building is noted as a reputed museum. It’s noted as ‘Museo Histórico Nacional Del Cabildo y la Revolución de Mayo’ and houses numerous antique weapons.
National Fine Arts Museum: For housing the renowned paintings of some of the renowned painters of 19th and 20th century it has earned a significant status in Buenos Aires. It’s known as an important center for art exhibitions as well. Separate rooms are allotted to exhibit the paintings, sculptures and tapestries of varied ages and periods. For accommodating umpteen numbers of books it’s also considered as a significant library.
- Sculptures:
El Monumento de Los Espanoles: This structure was built by sculptor Agustín Queroly Subirats and was gifted by the Spanish community. It’s beautifully made up of bronze and marble. The symbolic meaning that it carries makes it a significant sculpture of Buenos Aires.
Plaza San Martin: In this beautiful square, one of the most well known sculptures called ‘General José de San Martín Monument’ is housed. The names of the soldiers who died in the Malvinas Islands war is inscribed on this memorial.
