    Visa and Currency in Buenos Aires



    The currency of Buenos Aires is Argentinean Nuevo Peso (ARS) at present. One Peso is divided in to 100 centavos. Notes and coins come in 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 1 peso, 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 Pesos and Centavos respectively. In the recent times, with the devaluation of Peso, the foreign tourists have been at a much beneficial position; however, it’s advisable to watch over the exchange rate. Currencies can be generally exchanged at banks and cambios (bureaux de change) and it’s advisable to approach the ATMs where the exact exchange rate is reflected. US Dollars and Euros are acknowledged largely. Barring Cirrus cards which are not accepted everywhere, almost all the credit cards and debit cards are generally acknowledged. It’s recommended to carry travelers’ cheques in US Dollars because travelers’ cheques might not be accepted in rural areas.

    Possession of visa and a valid passport is mandatory for almost all the visitors entering Buenos Aires. For nationals of UK, Australia, Hungary, Finland, Latvia, Poland, Sweden, USA, Bulgaria, etc some additional exemptions are there.     • Student’s visa:

      Candidates going to Argentina for a course longer than 90 days should possess a student’s visa which is valid for 1 year and can be renewed later. If the course’s duration is lesser than 90 days then ownership of a tourist visa suffices. Provided are the required documents for applying: passport, application form, return ticket, letter from employer and one passport size photograph. Generally it takes 10 days to get a student’s visa and it costs $200-250.

    • Tourist visa:

      Nationals of Hong Kong, Jamaica and Malaysia need not have tourist visa for a stay of up to 30 days; however, nationals from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay do not need visa for a stay of 90 days. The required documents for the other nationals are: one passport size photograph, return ticket, fee (payable by post or cheques), application form, and passport. On an average, within 2 days a tourist visa is issued and it takes at least $30.

    • 15 day visa:

      A letter or agreement from the employer’s side or the company where the person’s service is required is mandatory for applying for visa.

    • Business visa:

      Same as the 15 day visa as well as bank statement and letter for introduction are the necessary documents.
