Vienna, the capital city of Austria is one of the biggest historical and cultural centers of Central Europe. When founded around 500 BC Vienna was basically a Celtic settlement. In 15 BC Vienna was made a frontier city to guard the roman Empire from German invasion. At that time Vienna was known as Vindobona. - The Prague Castles:
The Prague can be described as a collection of fine arts and architectural monuments most of which are royal palaces and churches. The Prague is one of the designated UNESCO world heritage sites in Vienna. The Celtic fort, the City Centre, the Old Town Square, the municipal house, the Old town hall and the Astronomical clock are the biggest specimens of heritage of Vienna in Prague. Other specimens are the Charles bridge, the palaces, the Baroque church. The Prague castle is believed to be the largest castle complex in the world and is dominated by the cathedral of Adalbert, Wenceslas and SS Vitus.
- The Ruprechtskirce-Vienna's oldest church:
The Ruprechtskirce, known as the oldest church in Vienna is an important specimen of the Viennese heritage. It is located in the section of Roman Vindobona, one of the oldest part of the city. The church was dedicated to saint Repurt of Salzburg, known as the patron saint of salt merchant in the city during the middle ages. At that time the Ruprechtskirce was the seat of the salt office (Salzamt). It used to overlook the salt merchants' jetty on river Danube. In the year 1276 the church was damaged by fire and later modified. Historical things like the oldest bell in Vienna, the oldest glass window panes, a statue of Saint Rupert is located here.
- Anchor Clock (Ankeruhr):
Built in between 1911 and 1917 the Anchor Clock is a wonderful example of art noveau design which was planned by painter Franz von Matsch. The Anchor Clock is located at the oldest square of Vienna.
- Burgtheater (National Theatre):
In the year 1741 Empress Maria Theresia handed over an unused dance house to a theatre company named Sellier and from then on it has been used as a theater and is known as the national Theater. This dance house is a wonderful specimen of culture of the 18th century and is situated in the first district.
- The Simmering Railway:
The Simmering railway is another designated UNESCO world heritage site of Vienna. The railway was built over 41 kilometers of mountains between 1848 and 1854. The Simmering Railway is known as one of the greatest feats of civil engineering as far as railway building is concerned. The Simmering Railway Travels through the wonderful mountain landscape and passes through many high standard tunnels. Now some fine buildings have been erected in different spots in the route for leisure activities. It also one of the major tourist attraction of Austria as well.
