In the year 1990, Prague city was divided into 56 self-governing municipal districts. Each of these districts are responsible for the environmental protection, ordering equipments for educational institutions, cultural and sports activities, organizing social and health programs. The district authorities are also responsible for sale of public properties, ownership and maintenance of public properties.
