Seat of the national parliament, the government, and the monarchy, Copenhagen is the largest city and the capital of Denmark. The city is made up of 16 municipalities. Copenhagen is globally known as one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the world. The Danish currency is the krone (DKK) which is divided into 100 oere. Copenhagen is also a part of the Øresund region, which consists of the eastern part of Zealand in Denmark and the western part of Scania in Sweden.
General climate of the city and best time to visit:
On an average15 C (59 F) remain the average temperature in Copenhagen. In February the temperature is freezing or in other words February is the coldest month. While the warmest are July and August. Copenhagen general climate is relatively mild, given the northern locale winters are cold and dark. The ideal time to visit is May to September when temperatures are around 50 to 70 degrees (F) and many outdoor events take place.
Area and Location:
Copenhagen is located partly on the island of Amage and partly on the eastern shore of the island of Zealand (Sjælland).On the Swedish side of the sound directly across from Copenhagen, are the towns of Malmö and Landskrona. Copenhagen faces to the east the Øresund, the strait of water that separates Denmark from Sweden, and that connects the North Sea with the Baltic Sea.
Copenhagen is also a component of the Øresund region, which belongs to the eastern part of Zealand in Denmark and the western part of Scania in Sweden. Copenhagen itself is divided into 15 administrative, statistical and tax districts (bydele)
Copenhagen delicacies:
Copenhagen delicacies offer a great variety of fine delicacies. It is possible to find modest eateries with open sandwiches (called "smørrebrød"), which is the traditional and most known dish. Hotdogs is also synonymous with Copenhagen delicacies, which can be found throughout the city. While the influence of the Middle East, Turkey and Arabian countries has made kebab and falafel as popular as more traditional Danish fast food. More over Copenhagen is also home to some of the finest restaurants on earth. Delectable cakes, authentic Danish pastries and delicacies are some of the varieties in baked food that Copenhagen delicacies are famous for. In other words Copenhagen confectioneries are delighting the world for the past few centuries.
Government:
The structure of political system in Copenhagen is municipality. Copenhagen was one of the three last Danish municipalities not belonging to a County— the others being Frederiksberg (the municipality with the smallest area and an enclave within Copenhagen itself) and Bornholm. On 1 January 2007, the municipality lost its county privileges and became part of Region Hovedstaden (i.e. the Copenhagen Capital Region).The municipal seat of government is the Copenhagen City Hall (Rådhus). Copenhagen municipality was not merged with other municipalities on January 1, 2007 as the result of nationwide Kommunalreformen ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007). Gentofte, Gladsaxe and Herlev to the north, Rødovre and Hvidovre to the west, and Tårnby to the south are some of neighboring municipalities of Copenhagen. Frederiksberg is located as an enclave within the municipality, and is thus surrounded by Copenhagen.
