Georgia

The Eurasian country of Georgia is situated in the Caucasus at the eastern coast of Black Sea. The countries surrounding Georgia are Russia, Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Official Languages:

The official language of Georgia is Gregorian. About 3.9 people speak this language in Georgia. As most of the people use this language, it is also used in the field of media, newspapers, schools, colleges, and universities as well. This language has been a part of their identity and is used by the political leaders as well as. English is also used but is spoken by few people.

Independence, Republic and Government:

Georgia got its independence from the former USSR on 9th April, 1991. Georgia has declared herself a representative democracy which is further developed as a unitary, semi presidential republic. It is also a member of United Nations, Council of Europe,the World Trade Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation. They have a Prime Minister as well as President. The Georgian government has an executive branch as well as a judicial branch. The executive branch is the biggest and most of the budget is used for its activities. The governor is the state's chief executive officer. The governor's can serve two year's term and each term is of four years. Other than this, seven more executive officers are also elected by the people. The executive branch of the government has twenty five other departments and other small agencies, boards and commissions. There is a judicial branch as well. The country is divided into two separate circuits and each circuit is handled by a superior judge. Georgia also has a supreme court which is the highest court of Georgia.

There are many important cities in Georgia. Some of the top cities of Georgia are:
  • Tbilisi:This is the capital city of Georgia and the Mayor of this place is Giorgi Gigi Ugulava. The area of the city is 372 square kilometer. People from various culture, caste and religion stay here. It has an airport and some of the important tourist attractions of the country.

  • Kutaisi:It is the second largest city of Georgia and is the capital of Imereti region. It is famous for its landscapes, tourist attractions, theaters, cinema and other Entertaining Center.

  • Batumi:A seaside city situated on the banks of the Black Sea, it is the capital of the Adjara region. It is the important commercial center and also has a large port. It is famous for its landmarks which include museums, gardens and parks. It is a home to people of different culture and religion.

  • Gagra:It is also a sea side city situated in the coast of Black Sea. It is famous as a health resort because of the beautiful sub tropical climate it has. This city has been under the rule of various people. Tourist from various places especially Russia visit this place because of its beautiful surrounding and atmosphere.

Culture and Heritage:

Georgia is famous for its classical literature, arts, philosophy, architecture and science. Georgia is also famous for its rich folklore, theater, cinema, traditional music, arts etc. Georgians also love music and dance. In the fielding of painting, Georgia has produced some of the legendary painters and they are Niko Pirosmani, Lado Gudiasvili, Elene Akhvlediani etc. Some of the important poets of Georgia are Galaktion, Tabidze, Lado Asatiani, Mukhran Machavariani etc. George Balanchine, Vakhtang Chabukiani, Nino Ananiashvili are some of the important ballet choreographers of Georgia. In the 20th century, Soviet Union imposed the policy of “Russification”. The people of Georgia had strongly resisted this. After Georgia gained its independence, a cultural resurgence had taken place.

Georgia is one of important tourist destinations. Tourists can find a large number of mountains in Georgia and this is one of the dominant feature. The Likhi Range divides the country into two halves- east and west. Other than this one of the famous and deepest caves in the world is situated in Georgia and is known as Voronya Cave. Two famous rivers also flow from this region and are known as Rioni and Mtkvari. Other than famous mountains, caves and rivers, Georgia also has a beautiful landscape. If you go to Georgia you will find low land marsh forests, temperate rain forests, swamps, snows and glaciers. Though the nation is small, it has a varied climate. As the winter and the summer months are drier, tourists are advised to visit Georgia during this period. Other than this Georgia is also famous for the museums, parks and gardens, theaters etc.
