    Clothings in Tehran

Being an Islamic country, the clothing in Tehran has its own distinctiveness. Revealing dresses are a complete no for one and all. Clothing in Tehran has always had a traditional history. The international tourists visiting the city are advised to have a clear idea about the clothing in Tehran before their visit. Clothing in Tehran largely depends on the occasion and purpose of one’s trip.

While moving in and around the city women over the age of nine, according to the codes of Koran, are expected to wear loose fitting cotton trousers with long sleeved shirts and a headscarf, without revealing any part of the body. Other dresses commonly worn are knee length, long sleeved coats with long trousers or skirts. The dresses are comfortable and cool. It is also a compulsion to cover their hair and thus headscarves are considered to be significant attire of the dressing styles of Tehran. Long skirts are also frequently encountered. Bright and white colored dresses are largely avoided by the people of Tehran; whereas black is the most preferred color. The traditional dress ‘Hijab’ forms an important attire of the women in Tehran. Hijab is basically a headscarf worn by Muslim women which conceals the hair and neck. Sometimes it also has a face veil to cover the face.

Western wear and short sleeve shirts are not the preferable dresses for men of Tehran. Incase of public functions and occasions, t-shirts, ties and shorts are not worn. In case of private parties and functions the clothing in Tehran differs substantially. In case of office, school, embassy, agency and so forth, formal attires are worn largely.
