    Museum in Tehran



    Tehran, the capital city of Iran is renowned for her indigenous archeological works since ages. The designs and intrinsic works on the walls, pillars and ceilings of the museums in Tehran have gained worldwide attention. Tourists from all over the world take an opportunity to visit and tour around in the museums in Tehran. Though some of the museums in Tehran date back to the ancient ages yet they are well maintained by the government of the country.     National Museum of Iran

    Overview: In the year 1937 this renowned museum, designed by the French architect Andre Godard and located in Central Tehran, was inaugurated. Among the two buildings of this museum, the former one comprises of pre-Islamic collections where as the latter one consists the post-Islamic accumulations. Artifacts of the Bronze Ages, Seleucid, Sassanid, chalcolothic, Iron Ages and so on are housed in the building one. In 1996 the other building was inaugurated and holds collections of pottery, astrolabes, texts, calligraphy, artworks, textiles and so forth. Some of the collections date back to the Lower Paleolithic age and handful belongs to the Kermanshah Province.

    Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art

    Overview: It’s one of the finest museums of the country. Architect, Kamran Diba had designed this museum and was constructed just next to the Laleh Park of Tehran. It was inaugurated in the year 1977 and showcases the traditional and unique Persian architecture. It houses works of noted artists and known for the vast collection of precious modern art of the West. Andy Warhol, Edvard Munch, Richard Hamilton, Pablo Picasso, Mary Cassatt, Giacomo Balla are some of the artists whose works are housed in this museum.

    The Carpet Museum

    Overview: This museum located beside the Laleh Park was founded in the year 1976. It exhibits a wide array of colorful Persian carpets from all around the country. Some of the carpets date back to the 18th century. It also houses a famous library which comprises of almost 7,000 books regarding different subjects. The museum was well designed by Farah Diba Pahlavi (Iran’s last queen).

    Treasury of the National Jewels

    Overview: Some of the most expensive jewels of the world are housed in this museum of Tehran. Each of these jewels speak about the bloodshed occurred in the numerous battles, the country’s pride, the ruler’s power and the past history of the country. The unique collection, cuts of the gems and there scintillating glares mesmerize one and all. These are the best examples of the rich culture and heritage of Tehran and her people. Tourists from across the globe and the local residents take great pleasure in touring around the museum and viewing the precious gems.

    Museum of Ayatollah Khomeini

    Overview: The religious leader of Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini had ruled Iran for almost 10 years. In commemoration of him this museum was constructed. Today it houses the belongings of Ayatollah Khomeini and many other historical artifacts.
