Baghdad offers an array of attractions for tourist. Tourist attractions in Baghdad include the National Museum of Iraq (whose priceless collection of artifacts was looted during the 2003 invasion), the iconic Hands of Victory and Baghdad zoo, Al Kadhimain Shrines (in the northwest of Baghdad in Kadhimiya) and Abbasid Palace (One of the oldest building from the13th century). Baghdad Tower:
Alternatively known as Saddam Tower. Before the USA bombing the tower used to be the highest point in the city from where all Baghdad could be seen.
The Two Level Bridge in Jadriya:
Locally known as Jisr Abul Tabqain, the bridge connects Al-Doura area (which is very large) with a direct path to the rest of the Baghdad
Al-Zawra'a Park in Al-Mansour Area:
Almost located at the center of Baghdad.
Al-Shaheed Monument:
Located on the east bank of the Tigris near Sadr City. It is a monument dedicated to the Iraqi soldiers killed in the Iran-Iraq war
The Al Kadhimain Shrines:
One of the most important Shi'ite religious buildings in Iraq. It is located in the northwest of Baghdad (in Kadhimiya). It was finished in 1515 and the 7th (Musa ibn Jafar al-Kathim) and the 9th Imams (Mohammad al-Jawad) were buried here.
Abbasid Palace:
The palace is part of the central historical area of the city. It is also one of the oldest buildings from the 12th century or 13th century. It is close to other historically important buildings such as the Saray Building and Al-Mustansiriyah School (From the Abbasid Period).
Hands of Victory:
It is a pair of triumphal arches in central Baghdad. Each arch consists of a pair of hands holding crossed swords. It is also known as the Swords of Qadisiyah. The two arches mark the entrances to a parade-ground constructed to commemorate then Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's declaration of victory over Iran in the Iran-Iraq war.
Baghdad zoo:
Located in the heart of al-Zawra it is an entertainment park in Baghdad. It once housed 650 animals.
