Israel

he State Of Israel is situated in Southwest Asia, which is on the Southeastern side of the Mediterranean Sea. Israel shares it's borders with countries like Lebanon in North, Syria and Jordan in the East and Egypt on Southwest. This is the only country where maximum population of Jewish people reside. Despite being a Jewish nation, it is also home to many Muslims, Christians and Druze with Arabic ascendants. The name Israel has biblical origin and it comes from the character of Jacob, who was renamed as Israel. But, modern commentators differ from this suggestion and according to them Israel means "God rules" or "God Judges".

Official Languages
The official language of the nation are Hebrew and Arabic. Hebrew is the language in which Bible was originally written and gained prominence in Israel during Renaissance. Arab came from contact with the neighbor countries during a clash with them. English along with the two languages is compulsory to be taught in schools. Due to Israel citizens belonging to a variety of religions, languages like French, Yiddish, Russian, Spanish, German, Polish too are widely spoken among people there. Although, language used for commercial purposes remain Arabic or Hebrew. Yet, one can find newspapers and magazines in almost all the aforementioned languages.

Independence, Republic and Government
Arabs firmly opposed the pouring over of Jews in Palestine and demanded for partition of the country. During the war between the two sects, where Arabs were at majority, over 7111,000 Arabs left Israel as per the United Nation's assessment of the situation. Soon after this war in 1947, British empire withdrew it's mandate of Palestine on May 14, 1948. This was the time when Jewish National Council declared themselves as the independent State Of Israel.

In the State Of Israel, Parliamentary democracy with universal suffrage exists as the form of government. President is the head of the state and takes all major decisions. He selects the Prime Minister from one of the members of the party who wins by majority votes. The Parliamentary body of Israel consists of 120 members. The capital of the nation, Jerusalem is the home where all major governmental bodies are seated.
