Kazakhstan

The Republic of Kazakhstan is located near the Northern and Central Eurasia. It is also the ninth largest country in the world in terms of the region it covers. But, a major portion of it's territories consist of semi-desert terrain. The population of the country is very low. Geographically, the country lies on the juncture of the two continents:Asia and Europe. However, mainly in Asia, Kazakhstan has a small portion in the West of Ural river that comes in the region of Europe.

Official Languages:

As Kazakh is spoken by the majority of the people of Kazakhstan, it is the official language of the country. Out of them many of the people are able to speak Russian and therefore, it is also one of the formal languages of Kazakhstan. The widely spoken and written Russian language asserts the fact of a deep bond between the two countries: Russia and Kazakhstan.

Independence, Republic and Government:

After the attempt of coup by Moscow, the state of Union of Soviet Socialists Republic was dismal and unstable. This gave Kazakhstan a good opportunity to free itself from their sovereignty of Soviet. Thus, Kazakhstan affirmed it's independence on December 16, 1991 and was given the name of Republic of Kazakhstan. Since it's independence, Kazakhstan has developed itself in every aspect by following the structure and form of Soviet economy as well as Political system.

The government of Kazakhstan operates under the Constitutional Republic form. The President is the head of the state and the military powers too are vested in the same post. The government is headed by the Prime Minister and he is also the head of the Cabinet of Ministers. The Cabinet consists of sixteen members and there are three deputy Prime Ministers. The government has further two branches: the lower house and the upper house. Elections are conducted at the level of upper level. There are 67 seats in the lower house along with the ten members elected out of the party list. The upper house, on the other hand, has 39 members in all.

Top Cities of Kazakhstan:

  • Almaty: The largest city of Kazakhstan has also been the capital of the country from 1929 to 1998. However, the capital was shifted from here, yet the city remains the commercial center. Almaty has been derived from a Russian word, which means 'rich with apple'. The earthquake in 1911 devastated the rich heritage of the city, but the famous Russian Cathedral is one of the best monument situated in Almaty.

  • Astana: The infrastructure of the present capital city of Kazakhstan is excellent, with everything separated from one another yet integrated. The residential areas have been separated from the industrial regions, so that there is no disturbances. The architecture is contemporary and the wide transparent tents look magnificent standing tall in the middle of the city.

  • Taraz: This is the nest place to witness the historical past of the country. Taraz is one of the ancient cities of Kazakhstan and that is what makes it a favorite tourist destination spot. Various fortress like that of Zhizhi and other historical monuments make it all the more rich in terms of heritage. The caves in Taraz valley are loved by history as well as adventure lovers. They display unique ornaments worn by kings in pre-historic times.

  • Oral: The city was named after the river Ural. The city is located near the borders of Russia and therefore, one can notice a good influence of Russian country over the life style of the natives of Oral. It forms a balance between the agriculture and industries. The place offers a lot of tourist sites such as: various historical museums, Town Hall, Church of Christ The Saviour etc.

Culture and Heritage:

Till the Russians conquered the regions of Kazakhstan, there was a nomadic pastoral tradition prevalent, which was named as Tengriism. Later along with Russian culture, they imbibed the Islamic culture too that was introduced in the country somewhere around sixteenth or seventeenth century. It is a traditional belief among the Kazakhs that air, water, sky and even domestic animals are inhabited by free spirits. In order to commemorate their guests, they treat him or her with the meat of a freshly cut lamb. Before that the guest is asked to bless the animal and ask for the permission to have it. They have certain sets of other beliefs and disbeliefs.

Kazakhstan has Architectural Mausoleum Akhmed Yassawi in Turkestan, which has been listed on the World Heritage Site. The ancient city of Otrar and Taraz consist of innumerable such sites. Kazakh music culture too has too recently was released through 60 musical CDs, thereby depicting various genres of it. The much eventful history of the country is more than apparent in all these beautiful heritage sites.

Because of the long and remarkable events in the history of Kazakhstan makes it an exciting place to visit. There are countless ancient sites that would excite any foreign tourist as they find such places intriguing. At the same time, the country offers all luxuries a tourist looks for while he or she is on a holiday. The beautiful city of Zaili Alatau has hills that offers a charming picture of mountains. The Kosai lake is again worth to visit. Amidst three mountains, the lake is located in a serene environment.
